VRU Partnership
Sports Connect Community CIC is in partnership with Kent & Medway Violence Reduction Unit (VRU). We work in collaboration with a number of partners to deliver Sports programmes across Kent and tackle local safety agendas.
The Kent and Medway Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) is a partnership between the police, local councils, health service providers and other key agencies to deliver a reduction in violence to the county. The Sports Connect Community Team work closely with the group of professionals to develop an engaging sports provision in the identified areas that will offer physical activity as a diversionary activity. Strong relationships with the local coordinators has enabled the partnership to create links between school sessions and community sports activities.
As well as targeting a reduction in the number of perpetrators and victims of violence, the partnership will also develop progressive employment opportunities. School learners will undertake a 1st4Sport level 1 Multi Skills coaching qualification which will help to develop a workforce for local sports clubs and groups in the targeted communities.
Within this project, Sports Connect work closely with Sport On Your Doorstep, Olympia Boxing, All Shades of Life, Youth NGage, City Boxing and Faversham Strikeforce to support their local communities.
