Sports Connect is saddened by the recent rise in violent incidents across the county, specifically Broadstairs, Herne Bay and Margate. Reports of groups gathering, escalating into disorderly behaviour and youth-related anti-social activity, are deeply concerning for our communities.
At Sports Connect, these incidents are seen as a reinforcement of the need for our Youth Engagement offering and our mission to Inspire, Motivate and Educate our communities.
Our community team is on the ground, providing positive alternatives and building relationships that aim to divert young people away from harmful behaviours.
Free Turn Up and Play Sessions
Each week, Sports Connect delivers free, no-sign-up-needed sports sessions in public spaces across Kent. These events transform parks and open areas into active, welcoming community hubs. The sessions are designed to provide a healthy, inclusive alternative to anti-social behaviour and more importantly, offer young people a chance to build confidence, teamwork and Inspire through sport. VRU Partnerships
We work in partnership with the Kent Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) to highlight hot spot areas and implement sports sessions to fit the need of the community. At these sessions, coaches aren’t just there to organise games they act as mentors, supporting young people and helping them navigate life’s challenges. What may start as a simple kickabout can often lead to vital conversations and redirection onto a positive path.
Community Outreach
The Sports Connect team regularly attends local events and family days, building visibility and trust within communities. They engage directly with parents, carers and residents while working alongside local authorities to identify hotspots before issues escalate. Our presence aims to send a simple but powerful message: when young people are seen, supported and given opportunity, they’re far less likely to seek trouble.
Broadstairs Water Gala: A day of Celebration
Sports Connect is proud to return to the Broadstairs Water Gala at Viking Bay for a second year. This much-loved annual event brings the community together with activities like paddle-boarding, fairground rides and evening fireworks.
Our team will be back with the Sports Connect Soccer Arena, running free sports sessions for all ages and signposting young people to year-round opportunities in the area. Events like the Water Gala offer a fantastic platform to engage positively and celebrate community spirit in action.
